Bruce Springsteen Live 1975-1985 Disc 3
Live Disc 3
This disc is largely taken from the “Born in the USA” tour of 1984-1985. This Springsteen is a more muscular version of 1978 Springsteen of disc 2. There are plenty of guitars and pounding drums. The “Born in the USA" album is heavily featured on this disc along with some new at the time songs.
The extended “Cover Me” adds a new layer of desperation to the song. “Seeds” still stands out as a great rock song.
Springsteen was known for putting on long concerts. All three discs when played one after another come in at just under four hours which was similar to a Springsteen concert of the time. Some hardcore fans had things they would’ve switched out or wanted more from, but in 1986, this was a welcome collection. The sound is solid, the vocals are clear, and the band plays as one unit.
The collection still holds up as a document to Springsteen at the time at his peak, but then he’s had so many peaks over his long career. Springsteen is not known as a trend setter although, the rolled sleeves of the 1980’s was popular. This box set sold well enough that companies started putting together box sets of other artists. The box-set worked good for career retrospectives and big events. Bob Dylan’s Biograph or Elvis Presley’s Elvis Aaron Presley box sets may have been first, but this was the one that caught people’s attention.
I started this last blog because his current album did well in it’s first weeks out and this collection is why his career has lasted as long as it has. Great band, solid songs and no filler.
