Critiques-It's not personal.
When an editor critiques a piece of writing, they are helping the author.
We know this.
It's still depressing to read that your work isn't perfect. I know all writing is subjective to a point, but one still hopes that an editor or beta-reader finds no errors. After letting a critique sit for awhile, it's easier to go back and read the review with a clear head.
The edits aren't personal. The edits on the writing are part of the review. We know this, but its still depressing.
It's funny because its difficult not to take things personal.
Before I went off to Army Basic Training, I was told that Drill Sergeants will yell at me. It's their job. Don't take it personal. It's really difficult not to "take it personal" when the drill sergeant is two feet away yelling about your footlocker or uniform.
A popular break-up line is "It's not you it's me." Doesn't it feel like -IMO it's really me otherwise I would breakup with you.
I'm doing the last of edits for Mix Tapes and Stuff. I read the critiques and edits. I wondered why I missed things earlier. I'm wondering if I really should stick with this.
This is what holds a lot of people back. The review. I have to remember, it's not personal.
