AC/DC in 1986 Who Made a Soundtrack
This was the soundtrack to a little seen movie written by Stephen King called Maximum Overdrive.
The funny thing about Stephen King is that people complain that adaptations of his books aren't good enough. Now he wrote the movie and it tanked.
The soundtrack holds up. It works as a greatest hits type introduction to AC/DC. To this day, never saw the movie. I have all the AC/DC hits on one collection.
The first song, "Who Made Who" was made for the movie, but everything else came from prior collections. "Shook MeAll Night Long" is one of the most famous of AC/DC songs. They used it in several movies though the years. "Shake the Foundations" has this great sing along chorus. That's one thing that can be said about most of their songs, they have great sing along choruses.
"Hells Bells" is one of the greatest openings in rock. You have bells, then one guitar then drum taps, then louder while the bells chime, then it explodes in song. The bell fades, but who notices because by then, the song is all out loud.
While AC/DC is known for the bombast, there is a bluesy slow jam called "Ride On." Throw in a few instrumentals and you have a variety of their work.
This powerful collections ends with "For Those About to Rock." Everything you know about AC/DC is in this song. Power chords, then power drums, a little slow then fast. It all ends with cannons and fast chords. There was no better way to end this rush of a ride.
The album is 45 minutes of rock at it's best.
In 1986, AC/DC were starting to fade. New hair metal bands were coming in. The albums weren't as popular. The tee-shirt sales are down. This soundtrack comes and Mtv now has a new video. There's big feature movie.
This didn't make AC/DC the biggest band in the world, but it opened their audience. Turned out to be a good career move.
No bad songs, nothing to fast forward past.
And don’t forget to read about Mix and his love of music in the book Mix Tapes and Stuff. Available at http://www.amazon.com/Mix-Tapes-Stuff-JJ-Lair-ebook/dp/B00KFTKCKE/
