Mix Tape's History Remix

Where to see the Empire State Building

This week I was going to write about the Empire State Building since it is featured in Dear Pen Pal. This iconic building has been featured in several books and movies over the years. Normally I would look up a bunch of sites and these books to summarize the points relevant to Mix Tape or Joe and Cate.
It’s the Empire State Building. Do you know how much material is out there?
I’m going to cheat this week and give you some wonderful websites that feature the Empire State Building.
The first site would naturally be the Empire State Building website. They give the history of the building and the land it rises from. You want to know who owned that property during the American Revolution-they tell you. It’s a wild site.

One of my favorite podcasts is from The Bowery Boys. They give the history of Manhattan so vividly that you can picture the sites as they talk. They don’t talk like know-it-alls. It's fun and it feels like a conversation. Here is their website.

A friend of mine has a blog. Several do, but this blog is about Art Deco. The bloggers show books, buildings and furniture. They even attach youtube videos in their blogs.

The building has a Facebook page and loads of likes.

A picture book

So click on a site and browse around. The Empire State Building is symbol of Americana that has lasted ages. If you’re in Manhattan, you should try to get to the 86th floor Observatory.

While you’re waiting for tickets don’t forget to download a copy of Dear Pen Pal on Amazon.com
