World War I in New Jersey
New Jersey State Museum -who knew? The museum is located in Trenton at 205 West State Street, next to the capital building.
It seems this country isn’t fascinated by WWI. I listen to two WWI podcasts, The History of The Great War www.historyofthegreatwar.com/ and The Great War Podcast thegreatwarpodcast.podbean.com. They aren’t the most popular podcasts on ITunes. it’s too bad. Both podcasts are full of information and stories from soldiers to political leaders.
WWI really was a World War. Ireland vs. England, Armenia, The Russian Revolution, Austria vs. Hungary, hundreds of countries were at war. America entered the war in it’s last year, but the rest of the world burned for four years at that point.
I went to see the WWI display in Trenton.
This display is located in one corner of the library on one floor. There are pictures of American veterans from World War I from New Jersey. The first thing that jumps out when you look at the names of the veterans is that they are all of different ethnic origins. These veterans came from all over the state. One could surmise that they left Ellis Island and found a place in New Jersey, not just nearby New Jersey, but all over the state.
There are uniforms and recruiting posters. They even have newsreels on a loop playing.
It’s free! Come check it out.
