Cutting Crew Didn't Just Die
This one-hit wonder band had a ridiculous song as their big hit. Ridiculous not because it’s a novelty song, but because of the title “I Just Died in Your Arms Tonight.” Get ready because this is so 1980s.
The founder Nick Van Eede is the only member of the band in all its incarnations. I say this because this band is still touring in 2019! If people want to find this band on tour to hear this one song and whatever else for the hour, good for the band. They must put on a great show. There are videos on YouTube to prove it.
Ok so I looked into the lyrics. Actually except for that title and the line- “she’s loving by proxy,” this is a pretty well written song. The song was about rekindling a failed relationship. The guy is there, post-coital, thinking about what he did. Should he have gone back to this girl? The feelings are confusing to him. Apparently the sex was good. What will happen after the sex? Maybe he should’ve walked away. In a world where guys are supposed to have sex then think about sports, here is a guy contemplating the circumstances of this encounter. We never get a resolution to his feelings.
Throw in a few guitar licks and you’ve got a decent song.
As I write this, I’m reconsidering my original intent here. I was going to mock this, but it’s a pretty good song. It’s got enough staying power to keep this band on tour.
I should have walked away.
