J.B. DiNizo Someone you hoped to see at local book fairs
Yesterday I read the obituary for Alice Norris DiNizo. I met her at a few book fairs in the past years and I recognized the name. She wrote Imperfect Past, The Folksinger and His Songs, The Unprinicipaled Principal, Soldier Boy and Up from Down and Out. I read some of these books years ago.
She went to Rutgers and Simmons University where she earned a Masters degree in Education and Library Sciences. She worked as a librarian for years. It provided the stories she would tell us at book events. Who she met. How she met other authors. Who was an inspiration for her own books. She knew a lot of local history. She would tells us about companies that aren't around anymore. Small hamlets that are now part of other towns. She knew who was a crooked politician or teacher. She talked up the good in all these areas.
She had published works. She published her own work. It had been a few years since she released a new title.
I could go on about her writing and books. These are quality books and very enjoyable. I had recently wondered if she had published recently. Unfortunately, she passed away on January 29th.
What I remember most was the time we had a book fair, possibly at Jackson Library. She saw me and told me that she loved my social media posts. They made her laugh and were great. Here is this fixture of book fairs throughout Ocean County New Jersey, published author with a Masters' degree and she told me how much she liked me! She had a few of my books. During down times at these fairs, authors talk. We talk publishers and other writers, new books we love. Alice went to everyone and talked with them. I believe she may be one of those writers that bought more books than she sold at the events. She never talked superior to anyone. She always had a great story.
I will miss her when book fairs happen again. I will miss that we won't get more stories from her.
