Favorite Works of Art

I got this writer prompts book with different topics. They had a prompt about favorite works of art. I can’t answer write about that prompt. 

What is Art?

James Cagney said art is everywhere. Cagney was an actor who portrayed tough fast talking characters. He had a rough upbringing in real life. A hundred years ago his family dealt with alcoholism, debt, a crime-riddled neighborhood. You’d think he would not appreciate art. Cagney was in fact a dancer in his younger years. He painted and produced an indie movie when he fought with Warner Brothers. He got an AfI award and gave this 7 minute speech about art. He said art was in the architecture of a building. A line of dialogue. 

I would add the aerodynamics of a car. Snowmen. A garnished dinner.

I don’t tend to like popular art. John Legend bores me. Award winning books don’t grab my attention. I don’t get Jackson Pollack. I’m not knocking this, it’s just not my thing. I can find beauty and art in the off-tuning solos in a Sonic Youth song. I will read any Sophie Kinsella book. The Chrysler Building is cool. 

I don’t have a favorite art piece because there are too many in the oddest places.
