Music Podcasts You Should Hear

This is Modern Rock hosted by Will Westercauw. He takes a month’s worth of music sales charts since the modern rock charts began in 1988 and discusses the top songs. I went back to the first show because it featured some good songs. These were songs I remembered from college. These were songs I look fondly on. The show wasn’t good. He was tentative about the songs, he didn’t know bios that well and his co-host was just not interesting. I listened to this music since a teen so when they are clueless about the song or artist, it grinds. I wonder if this is how I sound when I talk about 1960s music with my parents. Over the year of shows, he got better. He learned the artists and the songs. He got cohosts that are in bands and knew music. I learned something about some of my favorite songs.

Behind the Song with Janda Lane. This was great from the start. She picks a song and dissects it line by line. She has a good voice that conveys her knowledge. The thing I really like is she picks songs she likes but she doesn’t get goofy about it. She reads lyrics like it’s great art. She defines lines explaining metaphors and literal words. She knows her material. Wonder who “Heroes” by Bowie is about? She tells you.

If you want to know music from 1990s to present, these are two podcasts to check out. These podcasts are available on Apple podcasts.
