Let's Nominate Dallas Page for the New Jersey Hall of Fame

As I wrote previously, there are no professional wrestlers in the NJ Hall of Fame. Odd because NJ was home to legendary professional wrestlers.

There should be a  nomination for Dallas Page Falkinberg, a.k.a. Diamond Dallas Page for the Hall of Fame. Dallas Page went to Point Pleasant High School. He meets the qualifications of NJ residency.

In his twenties, he moved to Florida to become a nightclub manager. It was there that he met several professional wrestlers and worked his way into a new career.

He began as a flashy manager for wrestlers standing behind others. He did the talking and promoting for others. His wrestling career didn’t start until he was in his thirties. That’s an age when the average sports career winds down. He worked his way from AWA Wrestling to WCW in Atlanta. Page wrestled every major star, lost his share of bouts, won his share. He took hits and kept himself in the game. He would work his way through minor titles and partnerships until he won the WCW Heavyweight title.

Wrestling is predetermined and those titles are won largely on popularity with the audience. Page worked his way from villain to mid-card average wrestler to hero in audience’s eyes.

WCW Wrestling was bought out by the WWE and he moved to the new company. His time there was marred by bad ideas, a terrible locker room environment and no push forward. He stayed professional and tried to make it work, but he retired with little fanfare.

Winning accolades from his co-workers and the titles aren’t the sole reason why he should be in the New Jersey Hall of Fame.

Dallas Page got into Yoga at a young age. He took hits in the ring and didn’t quell the pains with drugs, he did Yoga and maintained a healthy lifestyle. When he retired from wrestling, he started DDP Yoga. This organization helped retired athletes get through their ache-riddled later years. He has worked with veterans on the path to recovery. He has videos on Youtube showing his path to health without medications or addiction.

A professional worker achieved success in wrestling when they said he couldn’t at his age. A man retired to help others. These are the qualities of a person that should be in the New Jersey Hall of Fame.
