Podcasts on Writing to Follow
I’ve been following KM Weiland’s podcast, “Helping Writers Become Authors” for years. She covers every aspect of writing from craft, story length, creating suspense, to publishing. The podcasts are fairly short, under 20 minutes. The other thing I like about her podcast is that she isn’t a lecturer or teacher. She might be outside of this, but not here. She uses comparisons between Shakespeare and comic books to make her point. I understood some Marvel movies better after she used them to talk about plot construction.
I bought Weiland’s books, “A Man called Outlaw” and “Storming.” If I’m going to follow her advise, I should see if she is able to write. They were good stories that I rated these books with high marks on Goodreads. Her book on story structure is a keeper that I refer back to often.
Mark Leslie’s Stark Reflections on Writing and Publishing” is another podcast I don’t miss. I met him at a writing conference a few years ago and they guy is as cool and personable as he sounds on the podcast. He writes paranormal and horror, but he’s not a scary guy. I bought his book on publishing and learned a lot from it. His podcast is good because he brings on other people who have different insights. Leslie is part owner of a publishing company and distribution so he knows his stuff.
There are more podcasts that I follow so I’ll continue next week.
