The Book-a-zine
Go into Barnes and Noble and the magazine rack looks odd. There are blank spaces and titles still there even though the sell by dates past. I know magazines are a dying breed. There are some magazines that adapted to the new world with bookzines. They are the $17 magazines that are on a single topic. There are several about Taylor Swift alone. You may see titles about legacy musicians. I saw a giant bookzine about the Eagles recently. There are several about Elvis Presley. There are Star Wars bookzines. Some magazine companies release bookzines that are compilations of old interviews.
I’m still able to get MOJO and Uncut magazine. These are two British music magazines with a lot of American artists featured. The magazines often come with a compact disc. That sounds so 1990s. In the 1990s these issues were expensive with the cd. The price today is very reasonable. You would be surprised who is still popular in England.
Through MOJO and Uncut, I heard some new music from War on Drugs, Sparks, Israel Nash, Corinne Bailey Rae, Matthew Halsall, The Coral, Dry Cleaning, Black Country New Road among many more.
Pro Wrestling Illustrated is still publishing. I haven’t followed wrestling in years. The posts about wrestling on this site have been about retired wrestlers. Pro Wrestling Illustrated still put out big glossy issues on stars. There were four big wrestling magazines in the 1990s but Illustrated outlasted them.
I haven’t seen Ring magazine in years.
Time publishes regularly and must sell because they have current issues out.
If you pass a magazine rack, you will see a different scene than even a few years ago. That’s how to adapt.
