Doughnuts Yum!

Mark delivers doughnuts for a living. He drives a big box truck that has shelves built in. It's very wide and very tall. He bought a route from the company and delivers to certain stores that carry that brand of doughnut. It was an odd system in the 1990s. Companies contacted stores to carry their product, but they sold the rights to deliver to that store to an independent truck driver.

I'm not sure if that system is still the way it works.

Here's a little history of the doughnut.

There are many theories about this, but the most common believed theory is that doughnuts were conceived as a Dutch treat. They were called oliekoek, which translates to "oil cake." Washington Irving was the first author to use the word "doughnut" in print. It was found in his 1809 work called "History of New York." Believe it or not the book is available at Amazon.com.

The treat of fried dough is common around the world under many different names. In this country, doughnuts come as filled or with a hole in the center. The common varieties are jelly, Boston Cream, chocolate, and powdered.  The biggest chains are Dunkin Donuts, founded in 1950. Their website is dunkindonuts.com. The other big chain is Krispy Kreme, which was founded in 1937. Their website is krispykreme.com

Mark delivers doughnuts more like the kind Hostess or Entenmanns make.
