Pretty Hate Machine in a Pretty Liked Book
I just posted a review of an older book in Goodreads. There was a series of books called 33 and 1/3. Each book took an album and dissected it. I read Daphne Carr's take on Nine Inch Nails album Pretty Hate Machine.
I liked this far reaching and accessible book. The author comes right out and says that Trent Reznor wasn’t going to be a source so she takes the book in the other direction. What did fans think? It made the album bigger as in audience and times. Yet, the album was small enough that each person interviewed saw it as their own.
Carr says this album had an effect on culture, music scene, and Reznor’s life. It turned out to be a really good book.
