Maybe She Wants to see me- Lee's story

Boy-Lee walked past Tartans Saturday afternoon on his way to meet up with Mix Tape at the movie theater. Blind Date just opened. Boy-Lee wanted to see the movie because Bruce Willis was funny on the television show, Moonlighting. The movie should be just as funny. 

Tartans had a large front window with curtains tied off to the side and top. It gave this homey look that the restaurant really didn’t have. They served greasy food and it was always loud. Mix loved the fries there so he could be found there. 

Lee’s steps got smaller as he approached. Becca worked the front registers so he might see her from the front windows. If she saw him, would she acknowledge him somehow? They weren’t great friends. Her brother used to hang around with Lee. Becca and him did a term paper together. 

There was nothing creepy about walking slow hoping to be seen. Right?

He thought about Becca in a really big jacket in class yesterday. She did that to advertise that she had a boyfriend and she stole his jacket. Other girls in class did it too. Lee never gave a girl his jacket, but then he didn’t have a jacket to give away. 

Lee wore sports jackets with the sleeves pulled up like the guys in tv. Those jackets weren’t big like girls wore. Mix ridiculed Lee’s bright pull-over shirts that never faded. The guys in those movies on HBO dressed like that so if he saw it on HBO, it was trendy. Mix would have to deal with it. Boy-Lee would make Becca want him because he was so trendy.

Schuyler was not a trendy town. They had a Mandees for girls and a bus line went to Willowbrook Mall in Wayne. It was a town full of guys that wore jeans and tee shirts. K-Mart was the big store in town for clothes. 

He approached the edge of the restaurant window. He could imagine it. She would look up and her hair would blow off her cheek. They would smile. The time wasn’t right now, but someday they would be together. It’s like they knew.

He passed the window and looked in. 

She wasn’t at work. He picked up the pace to the movie. He would see Becca some other time.
