Doughnut Holes
There are so many kinds of doughnuts and so many places that sell them. We’re talking gas stations sell doughnuts. I haven’t seen a bakery in a long time as they don’t have any where I live. In the 1970s and 1980s, there were a few bakeries in Northern Jersey. The areas I used as an amalgam for Schuyler would have bakeries. Bakeries weren’t just cakes. These big places made rolls, doughnuts, loaves of bread. They rented their ovens at Thanksgiving so people could cook big turkeys for their families. Jacob opens such a bakery at the end of Fantastic Beasts. Bakeries would sell out inventory every night too. It is one of those old time things now where people smelled baking bread in the morning from the neighborhood bakery.
Diets and eating habits changed so I don’t see as many bakeries anymore.
I like Boston Cream doughnuts. According to www.thething.com Boston Cream is the most popular filled doughnut. I would’ve thought jelly. Boston Cream has a custard filling and a chocolate top. It’s the best of two doughnuts. You get a chocolate cake and custard. The cream doesn’t have strong flavor but it has a flavor. It doesn’t ooze or make a mess.
