Mix Tape's History Remix

Neil Young on the Rolling Stone Magazine Top 500 albums

In this span of the countdown, from 311 to 296, Neil Young has three albums. On The Beach, Tonight’s the Night and Rust Never Sleeps.

These albums came out in succession in the 1970s. He doesn’t get credit for this, but Young crosses genres in every album. He’s known as “Godfather of Grunge.” His greatest hits tend to be his rock songs, but he dabbles in country, light rock, pop, you could say blues.

“Beach” is pop rock with a mix longer songs with solos. “Tonight” is a hard rock favorite. There is a mix of folk in the songs. “Rust” is a live album that arranges the songs with folk, country-rock, and hard rock. Young has albums all over this countdown. He doesn’t make the same album each time. For some reason he doesn’t o that credit. If you’re a Neil You g fan, you know this. Apparently other musicians know this.

He is like that right up to today. Not every genre works, but he will put out another album that will change things up.
