The time I went to Allaire Village
I went to Allaire Village in November 2011 when they had their Christmas celebration.
Allaire was a company town back in the 1840’s when the Howell Metal Works owned the property. This is something history buffs would like. I'm into going to these recreated villages and seeing old mansions.
The houses are open to show how modest Christmas decorations were in the 1840’s. They showed the toys children would get. The bakery made seasonal cookies. The church gave concerts of Christmas songs as they would’ve been done in the 1840’s.
The volunteers that work the blacksmith, carpenter shop and kitchens like to meet with everyone and talk about the village and it’s history.
The downside to the experience is that the general store has rows of wood crafted tools. There is a carpenter on site so you think, oh cool something made here. No. The tools were made in China.
On the whole, the place is a great place to visit for an afternoon and see part of history on any season.
